Sports Medicine, Chiropractic and Performance Testing for Buford, GA

Buford takes its athletes seriously. Friday nights at Buford High and Mill Creek draw crowds most college programs would envy, the club teams train year-round, and the adults are out on Lake Lanier, on the greenway, and in the gyms off Buford Drive at six in the morning. What Buford has not had is a place where a physician, a chiropractor, a physical therapist and real performance testing sit in the same building.
That is NuVitale Life Management. We are on Johns Creek Parkway in Suwanee, roughly twenty minutes down Peachtree Industrial Boulevard or I-85 from Buford, and the sports side of our clinic is built for exactly the people described above.

Numbers instead of guesses

Most performance advice is a coach’s eye and a stopwatch. That is useful, but it is not measurement. NuVitale runs the tests that tell you what is actually happening inside the athlete.
VO2 max testing gives you aerobic capacity, the number that decides whether a cross-country runner or a midfielder fades in the last ten minutes. DEXA body composition shows fat, lean muscle and bone density by region, so an offensive lineman trying to add size knows whether it is muscle, and a wrestler cutting weight knows what he is losing. Resting metabolic testing tells you how many calories a body burns at rest, which changes how a training table should look. Force and velocity testing shows how an athlete produces power and where the asymmetries are.
These are the tools college strength programs use. For a Buford family, they are twenty minutes away, and the results are read by a physician who can act on them.

Combine prep and return-to-play

Two things Buford asks about more than anywhere else.
Combine preparation is speed mechanics, strength and conditioning built around the 40, the pro agility and the vertical, with testing at the start and finish so the athlete and his coaches can see the change. We do not promise a time. We do show you the data.
Return-to-play is the careful part. An athlete coming back from an ACL, a shoulder, a high ankle sprain or a concussion needs a progression, not a green light. Our sports medicine physician sets the milestones, physical therapy handles the rehab, the chiropractor addresses the compensations that show up when one side has been favored for months, and the recovery suite speeds the whole thing along. Nobody clears a kid because the coach is short a starter.
Concussion baseline testing is available before the season. We are direct with parents about what it is: one input into a return-to-play decision, alongside symptoms and a physician exam, not the whole answer.

Chiropractic care for people who actually use their backs

Buford’s chiropractic patients split about evenly between athletes and everyone else. The athletes come in with the hip that locks up, the low back that tightens after squats, the neck that never recovered from a hard tackle. Everyone else comes in with sciatica, the shoulder that hurts after a weekend on the lake, and the aftermath of a rear-end collision on Buford Highway.
Our chiropractor does an evaluation before anything else, then usually mixes adjustments with soft-tissue work, movement screening and a few exercises to do at home. When imaging or a physician’s eyes are needed, that happens here rather than through a referral you have to chase. When physical therapy would help, the therapist is down the hall.
If you were in a car accident, come in soon. Early treatment for whiplash and back strain matters, and we can coordinate additional medical care from the same chart.

The recovery suite

This is the part Buford athletes talk about. Past the exam rooms, NuVitale has a recovery area with a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, an infrared sauna, red light therapy and EMS training.
Hyperbaric oxygen is used for recovery from injury and surgery and for the inflammation that piles up across a long season; a physician screens you before the first session. Infrared sauna handles soreness and stress. Red light is for skin, joint and muscle recovery with no downtime. EMS training works far more muscle in a twenty-minute session than a normal lift, which makes it useful for a bridge back to training after an injury.
Memberships start at $589 a month and make sense once you are coming in a few times a month. Single sessions are available for everyone else. Plenty of Buford parents book a sauna session while their kid is in physical therapy.

Active adults, not just athletes

Half of our Buford patients are adults who train hard and want to keep doing it into their fifties and sixties. For them, the sports side connects to the rest of the clinic in a way a standalone performance gym cannot match.
Low testosterone shows up as slower recovery and lost strength, and we test for it and treat it with follow-up labs. Weight that will not move gets a DEXA baseline and a physician-supervised plan, including GLP-1 medication when it fits. Joint problems get a physical therapist and a chiropractor who compare notes. And the annual physical happens with a physician who already knows your training history, because it is in the same chart.

What an athlete's first assessment looks like

Parents ask, so here is the shape of it. The first visit for a Buford athlete is an evaluation with the sports medicine team: injury history, current training load, sport and position, goals for the season. Then testing, chosen for the athlete rather than run as a package. A distance runner gets VO2 and metabolic testing. A football player gets DEXA and force-velocity numbers. Someone coming back from an injury gets a movement screen and a physical therapy evaluation first.
You leave with a written summary the athlete’s coach can actually use, plus a plan: a training block, a rehab progression, or both. Retesting happens at the end of the block so nobody has to wonder whether it worked. Wear athletic clothes and shoes, eat a normal meal a couple of hours before, and plan on about ninety minutes for the first visit.

Getting here from Buford

From downtown Buford and the Mall of Georgia area, Buford Highway or Peachtree Industrial Boulevard south into Suwanee, then Johns Creek Parkway near the river. From Hamilton Mill, I-85 south to Exit 111, then Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road toward Peachtree Industrial. From the lake side of town, Buford Dam Road to Peachtree Industrial and south. Count on twenty minutes, sometimes fifteen. Free parking sits right in front of Suite A.

A note on Lake Lanier season

Buford’s injury calendar has a second peak that most towns do not: summer on the lake. Wakeboard shoulders, tubing whiplash, the back that gives out hauling a boat onto a trailer, and sunburned skin that has taken a beating for three months straight. The sports medicine team and the chiropractor see the first three every June through August. Our medical aesthetics providers see the fourth every September, when people come in asking what laser skin treatments can do about the summer’s damage. It is the same building, so you can ask about both in one visit.
